This is what the Port Authority has told the president of the Cabildo, Lola Garc\u00eda, and the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, in a meeting of its Board of Directors.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The project for the construction of the new
\ndock in the dock of Puerto del Rosario is progressing according to plan, as
\nhas guaranteed the Port Authority today, July 24, in an ordinary session
\nof its Board of Directors.<\/p>\n

This session was attended by the
\npresident of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola Garcia, the mayor of Puerto del Rosario
\n, David de Vera, and Juan Jesus
\nRodriguez Marichal as representative of the General Council of the Chambers of Commerce of the Canary Islands
\n, who stressed the importance of starting a strategic work
\nthat comes to improve the operation of the port, thus boosting
\neconomic activity on the island.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the president of the Port Authority
\n, Beatriz Calzada, has moved that the project is progressing as planned
\nand meets the deadlines to start work. With a budget of almost 40 million euros
\n, the works were awarded to the joint venture
\nSociedad An\u00f3nima Trabajos y Obras-Obrasc\u00f3n Huarte Lain SA, and are co-financed
\nwith ERDF funds. <\/p>\n

Lola Garc\u00eda has highlighted the importance of a
\nproject “that fulfills a historical claim of Fuerteventura, since
\nwill not only expand the operational capacity of the port, but
\nwill consolidate the island of Fuerteventura as a key logistic node in the Archipelago
\n“.<\/p>\n

For his part, David de Vera has highlighted the
\nrelevance for the municipality of a strategic work that not only comes to
\nimprove the safety and operability of the port, but will strengthen the
\nposition of Puerto del Rosario as a hub of entry and exit of goods and
\npassengers to Fuerteventura, with the economic boost that entails”.<\/p>\n

The works contemplate the execution of a
\nnew external structure that will give continuity to the commercial dock from the
\nsouth area of the current platform, with a first section of 100 meters long
\nand a second section that will reach 375 meters. The project will improve the
\nprotection of the capital’s dock against waves and will allow the docking
\nspecialized for oil tankers, freeing the current dock for other
\nuses such as cruise traffic, improving its efficiency, safety and
\noperability. <\/p>\n

Punta Pesebre<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the session of the Board of
\nAdministration of the Port Authority, the insular president, Lola Garcia,
\nreiterated the need to initiate immediate actions to repair and improve
\nthe facility known as Punta Pesebre lighthouse (Jandia Natural Park),
\nas requested in writing last July 14. In this regard, the
\npresident of the Port Authority has expressed her willingness to study the
\nsituation for the rehabilitation of an infrastructure that presents a
\nimportant state of deterioration, affecting the safety and conservation of the property,
