The general director of Fisheries and the president of the island corporation met today with representatives of the three fishermen’s guilds of the island to discuss the situation of the sector in the current campaign, as well as the works to improve the fishing infrastructure.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The general director
\nof Fisheries of the Canary Islands Government, Esteban Reyes, and the president of the Cabildo
\nof Fuerteventura, Lola Garcia, held Thursday, July 10,
\nmeetings with the three fishermen’s guilds of the island
\n-Corralejo, Gran Tarajal and Morro Jable- to address the needs of
\nsector and plan the implementation of a series of actions to improve its
\nfacilities. These meetings were also attended by representatives of the
\nmunicipalities of La Oliva, Tuineje and P\u00e1jara, municipalities where
\nthese entities are located. <\/p>\n

In this regard,
\nReyes stressed “the importance of inter-administrative collaboration and the
\ndirect dialogue with the fishermen’s guilds to know first
\nhand the demands of professionals in this sector and to offer them an effective support
\nthrough actions to improve infrastructure or
\nother additional measures that contribute to the maintenance and development of the
\nfishing activity in the Canary Islands”.<\/p>\n

For her part, Lola
\nGarcia stressed that “from the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, we always stand on the side of
\nprofessionals majorera traditional fishing. Therefore, they are key
\nsuch coordination meetings between administrations and
\nguilds, to meet the demands in terms of infrastructure, so
\nthat favors a traditional practice that is also one of the
\neconomic activities more rooted in Fuerteventura”. <\/p>\n

In the first
\nmeeting of the day, with representatives of the Fishermen’s Guild of
\nCorralejo, the execution of the asphalting works of the fishing area
\nof El Cotillo was planned, in addition to checking the state of the pontoons of this area
\nport, object of some improvement actions recently carried out by the
\nDirectorate General of Fisheries and Canary Ports. <\/p>\n

Then, in the
\nmeeting with the Fishermen’s Guild of Gran Tarajal, it was agreed to expand
\nthe main building of the headquarters of this entity to house the trucks of
\nfish distribution and, thus, to release a marketing area in
\nthe facilities, an action to be carried out by the Canary Islands Government.<\/p>\n

Finally, together with
\nthe members of the Morro Jable Fishermen’s Guild verified the
\nresult of the roofing works, carried out by the Autonomous Executive in
\ncollaboration with the City Council of P\u00e1jara, in a fish transit area,
\nto facilitate the daily tasks of the fishermen and their development in a more comfortable
\nway, as well as the improvements made to the electrical installation. <\/p>\n

In addition to the
\ncorresponding actions in the infrastructure of each guild, during
\nthe day were discussed other issues of interest to the sector on the island, as
\nthe state of catches in the current campaign compared to the previous one, both
\nin the case of tuna and other species; the situation of shipowners and
\nsailors; or the agreement of transfer of Ports, among other issues. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
