The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has brought the \u2018Memoria Viva 2025\u2019 employment programme to a close. A total of 17 unemployed people carried out restoration and conservation work on heritage sites, museum spaces and places of historical value across the whole of the majorera landscape.<\/p>\n
The workers carried out almost thirty projects in coordination with Museos de Fuerteventura, working on sites such as the lighthouses of Jand\u00eda, Tost\u00f3n and La Entallada, the Ampuyenta Heritage Cultural Complex, windmills in areas such as Valles de Ortega, La Corte and Villaverde, and the surroundings of the Casa del Arrendatario in Cofete.<\/p>\n
Working alongside the local town councils, the team also extended its efforts to other sites of historical value, including the Tesjuate Unitary School and the Casillas wrestling ring (Campo de Lucha), among others.<\/p>\n
Work was also carried out on ecclesiastical buildings, such as the churches of Tuineje, Tetir and Antigua, as well as other chapels that are characteristic of the island’s rural landscape, including the surroundings of Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de la Pe\u00f1a in the Vega de R\u00edo Palmas, among others.<\/p>\n
This employment scheme was co-financed by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN). According to the island’s president, Lola Garc\u00eda, \u201cat the Cabildo de Fuerteventura we are well aware of how important employment schemes are, which we direct towards public service works that are demanded by the population\u201d. \u201cIn this case, by conserving and restoring heritage sites on our island, which are one of the main attractions for our visitors, a hallmark of majorero identity and, ultimately, a treasure we must protect.\u201d<\/p>\n
As the Councillor for Employment Promotion, Nuria Cabrera, pointed out, \u201cthese kinds of programmes not only boost local employment, focusing on the most vulnerable sections of the population who face greater difficulties in finding work, but are also aimed at improving Fuerteventura in various areas, meeting the demands put forward by residents.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
