Nearly 300 participants compete in the Relay, Aro Canario, Cifras y Letras and Figuras de Colores events<\/p>\n
Around 300 people are taking part in the 2026-2027 season of Neuromajo, a project run by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura through its Department of Social Action, together with the Asociaci\u00f3n Neurol\u00edmpica, with the involvement of all six Ayuntamientos. Through a collaboration agreement, this year Padilla Supermercados Spar, Grupo Barcel\u00f3 and Dany Sport have also joined, supporting active ageing among older people.<\/p>\n
The teams taking part are Las Elegidas and Imparables (Antigua), Virgen de la Pe\u00f1a (Betancuria), Las Guirre, Las Lobas and La Tahona (La Oliva), L@s Atrevid@s, Cofete, Faro, Amigos de P\u00e1jara, P\u00e1jara se Mueve and Playas de P\u00e1jara (P\u00e1jara), Las Apa\u00f1\u00e1s, Las Baifas, Maxopuerto and Los Picarones (Puerto del Rosario), and Camellito and Las Moriscas (Tuineje).<\/p>\n
Following the opening parade held this Friday, 16 October, in Caleta de Fuste (Antigua), the 18 teams competing this year gathered today at Playitas Sports Resort, in the municipality of Tuineje, to contest the qualifying round, which consisted of the Relay event, Aro Canario and the Cifras y Letras (Numbers and Letters) event.<\/p>\n
Both the island president, Lola Garc\u00eda, and the Councillor for Social Action, V\u00edctor Alonso, welcomed the nearly 300 participants, as well as the coaches taking part in this edition. They also congratulated the participants on their effort and dedication, and thanked everyone, including the Ayuntamientos and technical staff, who make Neuromajo possible.<\/p>\n
Mayors and councillors responsible for the area from all the municipalities attended the competition. The Asociaci\u00f3n Espa\u00f1ola Contra el C\u00e1ncer also took part, with a symbolic event marking World Breast Cancer Day.<\/p>\n
As part of the organising team, Besay Rodr\u00edguez expressed his gratitude \u201cfor Fuerteventura’s drive. As in previous editions, the island is once again the beacon lighting the way for the rest of the islands.\u201d<\/p>\n
The competition will continue tomorrow, Sunday, 18 October, with the Figuras de Colores event and the final rounds, in which four teams will qualify to compete in the regional final, to be held in November in the municipality of P\u00e1jara, bringing together the best teams from across the Archipelago.<\/p>\n
As a new feature this year, the Carrera de Letras event was held outside the main competition weekend, travelling through all of Fuerteventura’s municipalities between 2 and 8 October. Beyond the competition itself, the Neuromajo project aims to create an environment of togetherness, strengthen companionship and promote active ageing among older people across the island.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
