This sculptural piece, created in 2000, had fallen into serious disrepair, and one of the new government&#8217;s commitments was to repair it and restore it to its former splendour.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor and councillor for Public Works and Services at Antigua Town Council, Juan Cabrera, said: \u201cWe have restored all of the original lighting, repainted the sculpture and given it a general clean-up. We have also repaired the water pump system so that it works perfectly this summer and looks its very best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fountain has become a symbol of the town of Antigua, being the first monument that residents and tourists see as they arrive in the village.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs soon as I took office, I announced that I wanted this fountain repaired so that it would work perfectly and offer the best possible image of our municipality, given that this piece represents the future, the dawn of the second millennium, and is a symbol of our town&#8217;s modernity,\u201d said Mayor Juan Cabrera. \u201cWe owe a great deal of gratitude to the artist Pepe Meli\u00e1n, who has enriched the town of Antigua with his designs and art, capturing our culture and identity,\u201d Juan Cabrera concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mayor Juan Cabrera announces that the original lighting of this sculptural work, designed by artist Pepe Meli\u00e1n, has been repainted and restored as a cultural symbol of the future and modernity.
