The cultural collective recognized for its work in defense of the heritage of Tuineje and Fuerteventura.
The City Council of Tuineje expresses its sincere congratulations to the Sociocultural Association Más Ruines Que Caín for being awarded the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands 2025, a recognition awarded by the Government of the Canary Islands in honor of his valuable work in the defense and promotion of cultural and historical heritage of the municipality of Tuineje and the entire island of Fuerteventura.
The Más Ruines Que Caín Association wins this award for its constant commitment to local culture, especially for its annual representation of the play El Bien y el Mal, declared of Cultural Interest, as well as for its fundamental role in the revitalization of the Semana Santa of Tuineje and in multiple initiatives that rescue and value the traditions and identity of the municipality. All this is possible thanks to the collective effort of its members, the involvement of volunteers and the support of the community.
Commitment to culture and memory
The Councilor of Culture of the Municipality of Tuineje, Duce García, said:
“This recognition is a source of pride for the entire municipality. Más Ruines Que Caín has been able to connect new generations with our roots and traditions through art and citizen participation. His passion and dedication to the majorera culture is an example for everyone.”
For her part, the mayor of Tuineje, Candelaria Umpiérrez, wanted to emphasize that:
“Receiving the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands is an achievement that honors not only this exemplary association, but all of Tuineje. Más Ruines Que Caín represents the best of our people: the defense of identity, social commitment and love for our history. Congratulations to the entire collective and to this year’s other award recipients.”
The presentation of the fourteen Gold Medals of the Canary Islands will be held on May 30, the Day of the Canary Islands, thus recognizing individuals and entities that act for the benefit of Canary Islands society in different fields such as sports, business, culture, identity and human rights.
