The City Council does not accept the proposal of the association to remove the cab rank in Antigua.
– The Antigua Taxi Association loses the 50,000 euro grant proposed by the Antigua Town Hall to invest in the modernization of the communication system.
– Whether there is one, two or twenty associations, the City Council will ensure that the best service is offered to the residents of the municipality, says the mayor.
– As there are rights there are obligations to ensure a good service from the state of the vehicle, uniformed presence of drivers, compliance with schedules, or presence at cab ranks, says the councilman, Agustin Rodriguez.
– The mayor refuses to remove the cab rank in Antigua because it is a public service that must be guaranteed to the neighbor who needs it, regardless of whether the demand is greater or lesser.
The Mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña and the Councilor for Transport, Agustín G. Rodríguez, have received the new board of directors of the Antigua Taxi Association chaired by Antonio Fránquiz, answering their demands or questions and assessing the current situation of the service provided in the Municipality.
The mayor recalled the economic item of 50,000 euros offered and rejected by the cab association for the improvement and modernization of communication systems of the service. It is a pity that due to differences among the cab drivers themselves and their lack of unity, they have lost an aid that they could later justify according to investments or costs in improvements.
During the meeting, the Mayor and Councilman rejected the proposal of the representatives of the association to remove the cab rank in Antigua, as it is a public service of necessity, regardless of the greater or lesser demand that may exist.
No resident of Antigua has to wait fifteen minutes for a cab to arrive from Caleta de Fuste, said the mayor, Matias Peña, recalling that as there are rights, there are obligations that must be met, monitoring from the City of Antigua both the services and their frequency, vehicle condition, uniformity of drivers or in general, the proper performance of the cab service, a public service that belongs to all.
