The initiative, endowed with 80,000 euros, will provide comprehensive care for people with dementia and support for their families.
The City Council of Pajara, through the Department of Social Services, signed a collaboration agreement with the Fuerteventura Association of Relatives of Alzheimer patients and other Dementias (AFFA), aimed at ensuring comprehensive care for people diagnosed with dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, in the municipality. The agreement, under the name ‘Guarecer Pájara’, provides for a municipal grant of 80,000 euros and will be in force from January to December 2025.
This agreement aims to ensure a specialized, accessible and equitable service for people in a situation of dependency with a diagnosis of dementia. The signing of the agreement reflects the firm commitment of the City Council to improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable neighbors, and to support their families.
The councilor of the area, Kathaisa Rodríguez, points out the importance of supporting and collaborating with the necessary services for dependent people and their families in the south of the island. “The overall objective of the ‘Guarecer Pájara’ program is to ensure the continuity of comprehensive care for people with dementia in the municipality, promoting their autonomy and welfare. To achieve this, a set of activities aimed at both beneficiaries and their caregiver families will be developed,” he says.
The first deputy mayor, Alexis Alonso, highlights the value of cooperation between administrations and entities such as AFFA that are key to our society. “This agreement is a tool that strengthens the social care network and improves the quality of life in our municipality,” he points out.
For his part, the mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, highlights the importance of signing this agreement, since “it will help families who are in this situation” and that “shows the commitment, on the one hand, of AFFA and, on the other, of the City Council of Pájara in reaching agreements for the benefit of the population of the municipality”.
The president of the AFFA Association, Teresa Cabrera Morales, thanks the support of the City Council of Pájara and highlights the importance of this type of collaboration. “With this initiative we can continue to develop a person-centered care, respecting their rights and needs, while providing support to caregiving families,” she remarks.
Planned actions include cognitive stimulation and emotional health sessions, counseling and support for family caregivers, coordination with social and health services, and the creation of mutual support groups with meetings and workshops aimed at self-care and strengthening the family environment.
