Cabildo and Federación Insular de Lucha Canaria launch a new season of the escuelitas, with the aim of continuing to create quarry
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Insular Federation of Lucha Canaria have signed the agreement for the implementation of the 2025-2026 season of the Escuelitas de Lucha Canaria. A program in which six schools from all over the island and around 150 boys and girls participate, financed entirely by the insular institution.
The president of the Cabildo, Lola García, and the president of the Federación Insular de Lucha Canaria, Martín Cano, have signed the agreement by which the Island Corporation allocates 150,000 euros to finance the program. An agreement that is articulated from the program of recovery and dissemination of traditional games developed by the Department of Sports, directed by Luis González.
Lola Garcia has indicated that “the indigenous and traditional games and sports are part of our identity as majorero people, so their recovery, promotion and maintenance is one of the priority objectives of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura”. He also valued the great work done by the Island Federation and its president, Martin Cano, for the creation of quarry on the island.
The counselor, Luis González, stressed the importance of an initiative that allows to promote the majorera culture. “A safe bet for the future of Canarian wrestling in Fuerteventura and for the generations to come”.
Martín Cano is grateful for the support of the Cabildo for the development of this program and highlighted the work done by the monitors in the little schools to continue creating quarry on the island.
Agreement
As improvements within the agreement of the Cabildo with the Federación Insular de Lucha Canaria, it includes the financing of health personnel covering the entire wrestling season in Fuerteventura, both competitions and regional. Fuerteventura is the only island that has health and sanitary in the wrestling, financed by this agreement.
It also finances the broadcasting of wrestling matches, as well as covering all the expenses of the Fuerteventura national teams, both male and female of all categories, when they travel to compete at the regional level.
Cabildo de Fuerteventura and Federación Insular de Lucha took advantage of the meeting to meet the demands of the different wrestling clubs of the island and address the content of the agreement.
