This Wednesday, July 30, the town of Tetir will host a very special event as part of the Fiestas de Santo Domingo de Guzmán 2025, commemorating the centenary of the merger between Puerto Cabras and Tetir, two historic towns that have shared a common legacy for the last hundred years.
The Cultural Center of Tetir will be the scene of this emotional meeting that will begin at 8:00 pm with a round table entitled “Puerto Cabras – Tetir: 100 years of fusion”, organized by the Vega de Tetir San Andrés Neighborhood Association with the sponsorship of the City Council of Puerto del Rosario, through the Department of Culture.
The event will be opened by the Councilman of Culture, Juan Manuel Verdugo, who stresses “the importance of looking to the past with pride and to the future with responsibility, recognizing the historical and human value that towns like Tetir have contributed to the capital”.
During the evening a promotional video tribute to Tetir will be projected, followed by an enriching conversation moderated by Marusa Hernandez, with the participation of Sayo Sardinia, Paco Sardinia and Carlos Vera, leading voices of history, culture and neighborhood commitment. The official chronicler of Fuerteventura, Tero Brito, will also intervene to contextualize the meaning of this centenary union.
The event will feature the intervention of the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, who stressed “the pride of celebrating this centenary in Tetir, a town that has managed to keep alive its identity, its tradition and its hospitality. From the City Council we continue to support events like this that strengthen our common heritage and our collective memory”.
Then, from 21:00 hours, there will be a commemorative musical performance by the Folkloric Association of Tetir, as well as artists Ayla, Julia and Pedro Umpiérrez, three Majorero singer-songwriters who will put their voice and artistic sensitivity to this date so important for the municipality.
The Town Council of Puerto del Rosario is especially grateful to the Vega de Tetir San Andrés Neighborhood Association for its commitment to preserving the town’s festivities and organizing events as moving as this one, which honor the past and give life to the present.
All citizens are invited to participate in this historic day, which not only celebrates an administrative merger, but a union of feelings, traditions and shared future, because a people that remembers its history is a people that walks with strength.
