The XX International Meeting of Improvisers by the Old Town of Corralejo will be held this Saturday, July 19, at 12.30 pm in the Muellito of Corralejo and at 20.00 pm in the enclosure enabled annex to the pavilion José Perdomo Umpierrez. An event that is now in its twentieth edition, having passed through its stages outstanding musicians, singers and verseadores canaries, with representation all the islands and internationally.
The mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco said: “One more year we celebrate this cultural event in which improvisation and rhymes serve as a vehicle for the struggle for the visibility of the Old Town of Corralejo and the justice of our people”.
The Minister of Culture, Rayco Leon, said that “when a people unites, it is able to win battles. Corralejo is a clear example of this and we must continue to value it”. He also thanked that “culture is chosen to make visible and give strength to a cause that has taken important steps in the defense of the people of Corralejo, consolidating itself in the judicial field”.
Also present at the presentation ceremony were the Councilor for Festivities of the City Council of La Oliva, Omaira Saavedra, the Councilor for Tourism, Marlene Figueroa, and the spokesman of the PP in the Cabildo, Claudio Gutiérrez, among other authorities.
On behalf of the Collective of Affected by the Old Town of Corralejo, Gregorio Benitez and Miguel Socorro, thanked all the institutions and improvisers for continuing to support the people of Corralejo in this struggle. Not even the pandemic did not stop the 2020 edition that was held virtually and that gathered through the networks the largest participation ever seen, since the same edition brought together many of the participants in the previous ones. The public follow up has been massive in all editions since this social and just cause is supported by the people of Majorca, in addition to the artistic quality of all editions. The event has also served as an extraordinary quarry in which many of the improvisers who are consolidating as a relay of previous generations have been able to take their first steps on stage.
The 20th edition will be special, and will feature a wide representation of improvisers, musicians and singers from several islands and an international delegation from the island of Cuba and Colombia. The Caribbean voices of Ana Marys Gil and Emiliano Sardiñas, the regular Colombian troubadour Radioloco and the Cuban poet Raúl Herrera, who was present in the first edition, will also be present.
From the Archipelago, Domingo Umpiérrez El Cuco, Domingo Rodríguez El Colorao, José María Dávila, Elena González, Luis Carballo, Adrián Henríquez, José Yeray Rodríguez, Adriana Medina, Luz Mila Valerón, Julia Rodríguez, Marey Martín, Silvestre Ramírez and Isidro Ramírez will participate.
This event is organized by the Eight Syllables Foundation and the collective of affected La Razón de un Pueblo por el Casco Viejo de Corralejo, with the support of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the City Council of La Oliva.
