The City Council of Puerto del Rosario has held this week at the Youth Center of Los Pozos a pioneering meeting with children and adolescents of the municipality, which addressed key issues such as health, youth and citizen participation.
The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, stressed the importance of this initiative as an essential step to build a more inclusive municipality adapted to the real needs of youth.
“Today we have taken good note of the improvements that we must continue to promote, not only in infrastructure and spaces, but also in the design of training sessions and in promoting the participation of our young people in municipal events. Their voice is fundamental for the present and the future of Puerto del Rosario”, emphasized De Vera.
For her part, the Councilor for Citizen Participation and Youth, Jenifer Perez, positively valued the direct contact with young people and announced that such meetings will be repeated periodically.
“We wanted to hear firsthand the demands of our young people, both in the capital and in the towns and neighborhoods of the municipality. Knowing where we are failing and what we can improve helps us to work more effectively. This has been the first talk of many: every six months, or even quarterly, we will meet again here or wherever they indicate, accompanied by the councilors they request,” said Perez.
The Councilor for Youth of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Adargoma Hernandez, also participated in the conference, highlighting the importance of listening directly to children and adolescents for a correct definition of public policies.
“Direct contact with children and youth is the best way to design effective investment policies. Knowing firsthand what they need and what they ask for gives us an essential perspective for those of us who work in the administration and have the responsibility to define actions that positively impact their lives,” said Hernández.
This activity, which sets a precedent in the youth participation policy of Puerto del Rosario, reflects the commitment of local and island institutions to build a municipality closer, more accessible and tailored to the needs of its youngest citizens.
