The Oasis Pavilion of Puerto del Rosario became on Friday, May 16, the scene of a vibrant sports day with the celebration of the final stages of the School Basketball League, a project jointly promoted by the Tamobasket Club and the City Council of Puerto del Rosario. Dozens of boys and girls from different schools in the municipality participated in this sports festival, which has put in value not only physical activity, but also education in values through basketball.
This project, developed throughout the school year, has been divided into three main stages. The first phase consisted of the approach and introduction to basketball in the schools of the municipality, with practical and formative sessions that allowed the students to discover this sport and become familiar with its rules and dynamics. The second stage focused on the realization of internal eliminatory tournaments by educational cycles within each center. Finally, the third and last phase consisted of the municipal finals, where the finalist teams faced each other in an environment of healthy competition and camaraderie.
Beyond the purely sporting aspect, this initiative has had a comprehensive approach, promoting healthy lifestyle habits from an early age and emphasizing the importance of sport as an educational and preventive tool. In addition, basketball, as a collective discipline, contributes to the personal and social development of children. Through team play, values such as cooperation, responsibility, respect for others, perseverance and discipline are fostered. Learning to win with humility and to lose with dignity is part of the formative process that this type of initiative aims to reinforce.
During the day, the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, wanted to highlight “the great work being done in schools and local sports clubs to bring sports to the little ones. This league is not just a competition, but an opportunity to form healthier, responsible and committed people”.
The Councilor for Education, Tacoremi Gutiérrez, stressed “the value of these activities within the school environment, as they complement academic training with experiential experiences that strengthen self-esteem, coexistence and respect for the rules and others.
For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Luis Chacón, expressed his gratitude “to all the people who have made this project possible: teachers, families, coaches, monitors and, of course, the boys and girls who have participated with enthusiasm and excitement. The City Council’s commitment to grassroots sport is firm, and we will continue to support initiatives like this that build community and future”.
The day concluded with the presentation of medals to all participants, rewarding not only the sporting performance, but also the effort, attitude and team spirit demonstrated throughout the competition.
