More than 50 students from IES Jandía participated in a symbolic planting that reinforces the municipality’s commitment to sustainability and environmental education.

The City Council of Pájara, through the Department of Environment, has joined for the second consecutive year to the campaign “A tree for Europe”, an initiative promoted by the youth association Equipo Europa, which seeks to encourage the commitment of municipalities in the fight against climate change and promote the involvement of youth in environmental policy.

The main activity of this second edition took place today, Wednesday May 28, at IES Jandía, where more than 50 students participated in an educational day on endemic plant species of Fuerteventura, taught by biologist Stephan Scholz, an expert in conservation of Canary flora. Afterwards, a symbolic planting of native species was carried out in the surroundings of the educational center, in an act that counted with the active collaboration of the students.

The Councilor for the Environment, Ángeles Acosta, stresses the importance of raising awareness of the effects of climate change from an early age. “It is essential that our young people understand the environmental challenges we face. We want them to become agents of change towards a more conscious and sustainable municipality,” she says.

For his part, the mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, emphasizes the key role of local administrations in the fight against climate change. “From the Consistory we remain committed to initiatives that unite education, sustainability and citizen participation. Activities like this reinforce our commitment to a development model that respects the environment and future generations,” he says.

With this action, the City Council of Pájara continues to promote projects that integrate environmental education into the daily life of the community. This measure adds to a series of local initiatives aimed at protecting the natural heritage of the municipality.
