The beaches of Morro Jable, El Matorral, Butihondo and Costa Calma continue to be recognized for their quality and sustainability.

The municipality of Pájara is consolidated as a benchmark in the management and quality of its coastal areas by maintaining, in the 2025 edition, the four Blue Flags flying on its beaches. This recognition, awarded by the European Foundation for Environmental Education, distinguishes those beaches that meet a series of criteria for water quality, safety, environmental management, services and information.

With these distinctions, Pájara remains one of the three municipalities in the Canary Islands that has four beaches with this distinction. Thus consolidating the high level of its coast and reaffirming the continued commitment of the City Council to maintain and improve its natural areas.

The councilman of Beaches, Raimundo Dacosta, highlights the collective effort that has been made for the renewal of the blue flags. “We have invested in accessibility, cleanliness, safety and improving services. The beaches of the municipality are a source of pride for everyone and we will continue working to ensure that they remain a benchmark,” he adds.

For his part, the mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, stresses the importance of Pájara as a first class tourist destination and “our beaches are one of our main attractions”. “With this, we reinforce our commitment to a tourism model that respects the environment and encourages us to continue moving forward in the continuous improvement of our natural spaces,” he says.

The council has been working hard to improve not only these four award-winning beaches, but also the entire municipal coastline. Among the most recent actions is the renovation of the informative signage, facilitating access to key information for residents and visitors. In addition, security has been reinforced with the expansion of the surveillance service equipment, improving its emergency response capacity and ensuring the safety of users and staff.
