The City Council of La Oliva, along with funding from the Cabildo Insular de Fuerteventura, proceeds to the replacement of the turf and improvement of the irrigation system of the Municipal Football Field of El Cotillo. After 15 years of use, the Department of Sports, led by Gleiber Carreño, proceeds to carry out the necessary works to renovate the sports space through the Insular Cooperation Plan of Works of Municipal Competences, a funding provided by the Cabildo Insular.
This significant improvement, which will be carried out by Sports Leisure Group NV, also involves changing the material used in the facilities. Thus, the new turf will consist of an elastic sub-base of 25 mm of flexible polyurethane resin and SBR rubber grains of granulometry together with a special 30 mm thick infill, which will have a significant impact on sports practice.
The mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, points out the need to respond to the demand of the users of the soccer field: “From the Town Hall we know the need to change the grass of the field of El Cotillo, therefore, this reform has become one of our top priorities in terms of municipal sports. In addition, not only this, but we will proceed to the improvement of other elements such as a new installation of the irrigation system, in addition to the change of the perimeter grid, which will provide a new unified image of this sports facility.”
The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola Garcia, and the Councillor for Sports, Luis Gonzalez, have highlighted the coordination of the Island Corporation with the different municipalities to improve the practice of sports throughout the island. In this case, a coordination that is articulated between the different areas of the Cabildo and the City Council of La Oliva, within the Insular Plan of Cooperation of Works of municipal competences.
The Councilor for Sports, Gleiber Carreño, highlights the need to improve the sports space for the local soccer club and other users of the Island: “For us it was vital to implement this action because with this we not only respond, directly, to the demand of the Fuerteventura club but, we continue with one of the main objectives of the government group, as it is to continue working on improving our municipal sports facilities. In this sense, already in 2019 we proceeded to the remodeling of the lawn of the Vicente Carreño and now, with this reform, we take another step to continue with one of our major purposes in this area.”
This action responds to one of the biggest demands from the people of El Cotillo and other users of the island, thus fulfilling the will of the municipal government to continue improving the sports facilities of La Oliva.
