City Council and Association Against Cancer promote sun protection and active breaks in schools
– The youngest students of Triquivijate know the benefits of active breaks and the importance of good eating habits and sun protection.
Mayor Matias Peña and the Councilor for Social Services and Education, America Soto Betancor, have visited the CEIP Francisca Perez in Triquivijate in order to ask the little ones about their participation in the project of good healthy habits, taught these days by volunteers of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Fuerteventura.
The City Council of Antigua from the Department of Social Services works with the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Fuerteventura in promoting the project in the CEIP Francisca Perez de Triquivijate Addressing Obesity in Schools.
Among the practices and dynamics created in the center, all the students of the center take daily active breaks in order to increase the physical activity of the students.
The project is complemented by monthly talks, which during the month of April focused on the importance of sun protection to take care of the skin and prevent diseases and possible illnesses.
The Association, in coordination with the Antigua City Council and the study centers, is implementing two other projects in addition to the Obesity Approach: Smoke-free Spaces, to reduce smoking habits, and a third, Healthy Routes, to combat sedentary lifestyles and promote movement and practices that encourage walking and the enjoyment of open spaces and the outdoors.
