A good book under the umbrella? workshops by the waves? sandboxes on the sand? In Puerto del Rosario it is possible.
This Monday, June 30, has officially returned “A sea of stories”, the long-awaited Biblioplaya that every summer turns the beach of Los Pozos into a magical corner where culture mixes with the sea breeze, the sun and the desire to have fun.
A space where reading does not understand walls, and where books float among children’s laughter, board games and creative workshops. The Biblioplaya opens its doors from Monday to Friday, from 11:00 to 16:00 hours, and offers a range of activities for all ages. Among them, a games area with Parcheesi, dominoes and other pastimes, a children’s reading club on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and creative workshops differentiated by age: Mondays for children from 3 to 5 years old, Wednesdays for those from 6 to 8 years old, and Fridays for the older ones from 9 to 12 years old.
During the opening ceremony, the mayor of the municipality, David de Vera, thanked the efforts of the Department of Culture and valued the importance of “keeping alive this tradition that unites culture, leisure and summer”, encouraging residents and tourists to “enjoy not only the sun and the beach, but also this cultural space that enriches leisure time and promotes intergenerational encounter”.
For his part, the Councilmanof Culture, Juan Manuel Verdugo, stressed that “the Biblioplaya serves for the citizens of Puerto del Rosario and those who visit us can read quietly in the mornings in this unique environment”. He also stressed the importance of “continuing to promote culture and literature with initiatives like this, which bring the library to the street in an open, inclusive and summer format”. He also announced that work will begin this week on the modernization and accessibility of the Municipal Library, thus reinforcing the institutional commitment to promoting reading.
The Biblioplaya has a careful selection of titles, with a special presence of children’s literature, classic fiction and Canarian authors, including Alexis Ravelo, as well as daily newspapers, ideal for the enjoyment of the elderly who every year make this space a meeting point.
From the City Council of Puerto del Rosario invites all families, visitors and lovers of reading to get carried away this summer by “A sea of stories”. Because among the waves, books also have their place.
