Antigua requests reinforcement of the post office staff during the summer
– During the summer there is a decrease in the number of employees due to the lack of coverage for sick leave or vacations, increasing the workload of the letter carriers and postwomen and harming the public service offered in the municipality.
– The mayor, Matías Peña, congratulates the Correos staff, who from Antigua and Caleta de Fuste make a great effort and always with a good face, to manage and distribute shipments, packages and letters.
– Only seven operators cover the postal service in all the towns of the municipality of Antigua, plus Betancuria and nearby towns such as Ampuyenta, Tiscamanita and Llanos de La Concepción.
The Mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña, meets the demand of letter carriers and postwomen of the Municipality of Antigua, requesting a reinforcement of their staff, especially in the summer because of the lack of vacations or sick leave.
Throughout the year, only seven letter carriers and postwomen on staff cover the service throughout the municipality, in addition to neighboring towns, explains the mayor, to this labor tension is added the overexertion of the staff when they are not covered vacations or sick leave of any of the workers.
This situation affects the quality of the postal service in the municipality of Antigua, increasing the waiting time to be attended or prolonging the established times to receive postal items, packages or letters, adds the mayor.
The City Council of Antigua echoes the request of the staff and union representatives of Correos in the Municipality, moving the necessary request to ensure a quality service in the management and delivery of mail, that the staff is reinforced, increasing the number of operators throughout the year or at least, covering vacancies due to vacations, sick leave, transfers or other reasons.
Mayor Matías Peña takes the opportunity to congratulate the daily effort and great work developed by the letter carriers and postwomen in the Municipality, performing a great public service and a magnificent attention to all the neighbors.
