The City Council of Pájara celebrates the resounding success of the 37th edition of the World Windsurfing and Wingfoil Championship, which has taken place for two weeks on the beach of La Barca. This event, which has brought together thousands of people, has made clear the leadership of the municipality of Pájara in the world of water sports.
The competition, which is part of the PWA world circuit, has brought together the best international riders and has had perfect conditions for the development of these disciplines. The constant wind and the sea in optimal conditions have allowed the competitors to show their skills in a sporting spectacle that has captivated the audience.
The closing ceremony, which put an end to this intense edition, was celebrated with the awarding of prizes to the winners of the various categories. The high quality of the participants and the sporting spirit of the competition were the great protagonists of this day. The ceremony was attended by local authorities, members of the organization, sponsors and numerous media.
The mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, has highlighted the positive impact of this championship for the image of the municipality. “This event highlights the potential of our municipality, not only to offer sun and beach tourism, but also as a benchmark for elite sport. We will continue to bet on events of this magnitude, which position our municipality in the international arena,” he said.
The Councillor for Sports, José Benito Alonso, has highlighted the excellent development of the championship and the importance of “continuing to promote water sports among our young people and show the world the unique conditions offered by our coast”.
For her part, the Councilor for Tourism, Tina Da Silva, also wanted to highlight the importance of the event in terms of tourism and economic promotion. “With this new edition, we have not only put our beaches on the map globally, but it has also meant a boost to the local economy, reinforcing the commitment to sport, sustainability and the promotion of quality tourism,” she said.
Throughout the event, attendees were able to enjoy a series of parallel activities, such as concerts, gastronomic experiences and environmental workshops, which enriched the offer for all audiences, ensuring a complete experience for residents and visitors alike.
The organization is already working on the next edition, with the aim of continuing to grow and consolidate Fuerteventura as the epicenter of Windsurfing and Wingfoil worldwide.
