As part of the Festivities of Santo Domingo de Guzman, Tetir lived last Wednesday, July 30, an unforgettable day on the occasion of the centenary of the merger between Puerto Cabras and Tetir, a union that has marked a century of shared history, identity and common roots.
The Cultural Center of Tetir was the scene of the commemorative event, which began at 8:00 pm with the round table “Puerto Cabras – Tetir: 100 years of fusion”, organized by the Vega de Tetir San Andrés Neighborhood Association with the sponsorship of the City Council of Puerto del Rosario, through its Department of Culture.
One of the highlights was the intervention of the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, who said: “Celebrating this centenary in Tetir is a source of pride. This town has managed to keep alive its identity, its tradition and its hospitality. We will continue to support events like this one, which reinforce our heritage and our collective memory”.
The Councilman of Culture, Juan Manuel Verdugo, was in charge of opening the event, stressing “the importance of looking to the past with pride and to the future with responsibility”, recognizing the value that towns like Tetir have contributed to the growth and identity of the capital of Majorca.
The evening included the screening of a video tribute to Tetir, followed by an enriching conversation moderated by Marusa Hernandez and starring Sayo Sardinia, Paco Sardinia and Carlos Vera, three references of the local cultural and historical fabric. The official chronicler of Fuerteventura, Tero Brito, also offered an in-depth analysis of the meaning of this centenary union and its impact on the evolution of the municipality.
The day concluded with a commemorative musical performance from 21:00 hours, with the participation of the Folkloric Association of Tetir and the singer-songwriters Ayla, Julia and Pedro Umpiérrez, who put voice and emotion to a night full of symbolism and feeling.
The Town Hall of Puerto del Rosario is especially grateful for the efforts of the Vega de Tetir San Andrés Neighborhood Association for keeping traditions alive and for organizing an event that honors the past, strengthens the present and projects the future.
