They are currently working on cultivation and planting terraces at the Biological Station of La Oliva.
A total of fifteen unemployed young people receive training in gardening thanks to the PFAE GJ ‘Fuerteventura preserves its environment’, a program promoted by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and funded by the Canary Employment Service (SCE), which seeks to improve the employability of young people with special difficulties of labor market insertion.
Thanks to this Training Program in Alternation with Employment Youth Guarantee (PFAE-GJ), the student-worker is trained in the certificates of professionalism in assistants in nurseries, gardens and garden centers, as well as installation and maintenance of gardens and green areas. During the development of the program, they will carry out works and services in the Biological Station of La Oliva and the Municipal Park “La Tunera”, in the municipality of La Oliva.
Among the tasks to be performed are the execution of auxiliary operations for the implementation and maintenance of gardens, parks and green areas, as well as the production of plants in nurseries. These activities will be carried out with special attention to compliance with environmental, quality and occupational risk prevention regulations, in addition to the use of gardening machinery and tools.
The program has a total of 20 participants, including 15 working students, as well as 5 professionals who make up the management team, coordinator, teachers and administrative support staff.
The Councilor for Employment Promotion, Nuria Cabrera, visited the training, accompanied by the Canary Islands Employment Service technician, Antonio Ojeda. Cabrera stresses that this PFAE youth guarantee, offers young people an opportunity to enter the market while performing much needed public service actions, in this case oriented to green employment with services committed to the natural environment of the island.
The project ‘Fuerteventura preserves its environment’ has a total investment of 448,501.63 euros, being a project funded by the Canary Employment Service and co-financed 85% by the European Social Fund Plus 2021-2027 Canary Islands Program, as well as by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands, through the resources of the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).
