The action of ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ has allowed the removal of weeds, palm leaves and garbage from a plot of 9,000 square meters.

An intense intervention, with difficult access, without machinery and combining the school calendar with field work. The pruning of palm trees and the removal of garbage, weeds and dry leaves in a plot of 9,000 square meters next to the CEIP Morro Jable has been carried out over several weeks.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, from the Service of Works and Machinery, and in collaboration with the City Council of Pájara, sent the crews to recover the splendor and safety in this green area, from which they removed 70 cubic meters of pruning of palms and trees, 10 cubic meters of weeds and clearing and 2 cubic meters of garbage.

The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola Garcia, explains that the actions in the environment of CEIP Morro Jable were requested by the management team and the educational community of the center, and have been incorporated into the program ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ of the Cabildo, in coordination with the City Council. In the visit to the results of the work, was also present, the Councillor for Environment and Education, Pájara Ángeles Acosta.

The conditions of the terrain prevented the use of support machinery, so the members of the crews had to remove by hand the remains of the pruning and clearing, in addition to the garbage. “A hard but necessary work to return this green space to the citizenship and, especially, to the schoolchildren”, says the councilor Blas Acosta, who reiterates his thanks to the operators of the crews “for their commitment to carry out a hard and difficult work, but well done, in a sensitive area frequented by our schoolchildren”.

Given the steep slope of the terrain, which prevented the use of machinery, the work was done by hand and began in the upper area, next to the road. They continued advancing to the middle and lower areas, where the work was more intense due to the conditions of the terrain and the palm trees. The work schedule was adapted to the school calendar, pausing the work in the area closest to CEIP Morro Jable until the end of the school term to avoid disturbing the students.

Blas Acosta stresses that the investment of four million euros of own funds of the Cabildo in ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ “allows us to schedule actions with flexibility and agility, thus giving better response to the demands of citizens and municipalities.
