Puerto del Rosario condemns the acts of vandalism in the picnic areas of La Matilla and Tesjuate.

The City Council of Puerto del Rosario deeply regrets the acts of vandalism perpetrated recently in two public spaces of the municipality, specifically in the picnic areas of La Matilla and Tesjuate, where several pieces of wood that made up the new benches installed a few weeks ago have been stolen.

These facilities were rehabilitated as part of the plan to improve the recreational areas of the municipality, an action designed to promote neighborhood meetings, healthy outdoor leisure and the enjoyment of natural spaces. The theft of part of the furniture not only represents an attack against the public heritage, but also prevents the neighbors from making use of infrastructures designed for their wellbeing.

The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, has shown his indignation at what happened: “it is unacceptable that a minority acts with this lack of civility and respect for what belongs to everyone. From the City Council we not only condemn these facts, but we will work with the security forces to clarify what happened and replace the damaged or stolen furniture as soon as possible.”

For her part, the Councilor for Parks and Gardens, Erica Gonzalez, recalled the effort it takes for the local administration to maintain these areas in optimal conditions: “every improvement in public spaces is made with municipal resources and thinking about the benefit of all neighbors. These acts are an unjustifiable setback. We call for citizen collaboration to denounce uncivic behaviors that damage our environment and harm the entire community.”

The City Council has already initiated procedures to replace the damaged benches and will reinforce surveillance measures in these areas. Also, anyone who witnessed or has information about the events is invited to contact the Local Police or the Civil Guard.

Puerto del Rosario reiterates its commitment to the care and conservation of public spaces, and will not cease in its efforts to ensure that these remain safe and welcoming places for all.
