The festivities in honor of San Antonio de Padua in Los Lajares, will host on June 12 the II Festival Mareta de Sonido. The meeting seeks to serve as a loudspeaker to bring together the musical sounds of the north of the island, so that different styles and imaginary diverse and well endowed with creative maturity and personality of the area are known. Among the artists who will provide the melody to the event are Tamar Water, Sweet Swamp, Cabritofrito and Papaya Subtropical. In this sense, genres such as R&B, funk, swamp blues, rock and electronica will converge on the stage of the town square from 8:00 pm.
The name of the festival refers to the meaning of the maretas, those elements that try to drive the water from the scarce rains that the trade winds leave on Fuerteventura. Thus, the meeting will bring together just that, those groups and styles that roam the northern part of the island majorera in a single point, Los Lajares, in order to make locals and visitors enjoy during the celebration in honor of San Antonio de Padua, a party with which the summer festivities are inaugurated.
The mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, expresses the desire to continue to make room for alternative groups and artists residing in the municipality: “A meeting as the Festival Mareta de Sonidos not only becomes an event in which to enjoy different musical genres, but also becomes a loudspeaker for artists in the area. For us it is a pride to know that the municipality has a great diversity of bands with different styles, a cultural richness that will undoubtedly be reflected in this musical encounter.”
For her part, the Councilor of Festivities, Omaira Saavedra, emphasizes: “From the Department of Festivities we invite you to enjoy this second edition of the Mareta de Sonidos Festival in Los Lajares and all the activities and events of the Festivities in honor of San Antonio de Padua from June 5 to 14”.
