The City Council of Puerto del Rosario continues with the restoration work of the space known as the Rosa de Juana Sánchez, located in the neighborhood of La Hondura, with the aim of recovering one of the enclaves with the greatest historical and heritage value of the municipality.
The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, underlines the importance of this action: “we are transforming a space that was deteriorated into a place of pride for all the neighbors, recovering our roots and dignifying the rural landscape that identifies us as a town”.
The Councilor for Local Development, Erica González, adds that “acting in the Rosa de Juana Sánchez is to strengthen the link with our history and the environment. From Local Development we work so that every corner with heritage value recovers its prominence”.
For his part, the councilman of Services and Towns, David León, highlights the joint work between institutions: “The collaboration between the City Council and the Cabildo is essential for projects like this to go ahead. We are committed to the enhancement of our towns and neighborhoods”.
The work, which began during the first quarter of 2025, includes cleaning, removal of debris and restoration of frets and traditional dry stone elements. The property houses a circular stone threshing floor and an extensive network of gullies, which make it a unique space in the capital of the island.
The intervention has the support of the Machinery Service of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, led by Blas Acosta, within an inter-administrative cooperation project that allows continuity to the work promoted by the City Council.
The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola Garcia, welcomes this collaboration: “It is essential that from the institutions continue to bet on the recovery and conservation of our heritage. This farm is not only part of the collective memory of Puerto del Rosario, but of all Fuerteventura”.
The City Council of Puerto del Rosario contemplates new phases of action to continue adapting the environment and facilitate its future use for social, cultural and educational purposes.
