The City Council of La Oliva, through the Department of Primary Sector, led by Rubén González, promotes the first livestock exhibition of the municipality next Sunday, June 8, in the village of Los Lajares. As part of the festivities of the town in honor of San Antonio de Padua, this initiative proposed by the local festival committee, as well as by the farmers of the village, will be developed in order to promote the work of livestock in the area. In this sense, the objective is focused on the dissemination of the traditions of the municipality, making known the Majorero roots.
Thus, locals and visitors can enjoy this exhibition, which will take place next to the town square, a program in which the primary sector and, in particular livestock, will be the main protagonist. In addition to the livestock exhibition from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, the day will feature the exhibition of the game of the stick by the schools of the stick of the Island at 12:00 pm, the popular barbecue at 13:00 pm, presentation of diplomas to participants of the event at 14:00 pm and will culminate with a performance by the Jacomar Orchestra at 15:00 pm. Also, during the event, there will be two stands of local farmers to promote the local product.
The mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, highlights the importance of promoting this type of event: “Everything related to our roots and identity is worthy of putting in value, to promote it and thus make it known to our visitors and future generations. Livestock farming is part of the history of our Island and this exhibition serves as a vehicle to show who we were and still are, to discover the world of livestock farming to the little ones while recognizing the great effort made by livestock farmers to make our traditions endure.”
For his part, the councilman of Primary Sector, Rubén González, says: “This initiative proposed by both the livestock sector of Los Lajares, as well as by different members of the festival committee, is a unique opportunity to continue to raise awareness of the role of livestock in the municipality. From the City Council we consider fundamental the promotion of our livestock tradition and, therefore, from the Department will continue to encourage the promotion of all the work of the primary sector in La Oliva.”
This action responds to the commitment of the local government to encourage and promote activities related to the primary sector, so as not to dilute the tradition and identity of the Majorero people today.
