The City Council of Puerto del Rosario has prepared a full agenda of activities to celebrate the Day of the Canary Islands, with proposals that promote cultural identity, collective enjoyment and participation of all ages. The events are framed in different municipal areas, with special involvement of the departments of Local Development, Primary Sector and Social Affairs.
Traditional Games – Project “Bregando por Puerto”.
Within the project “Bregando por Puerto”, promoted by the Local Development Area headed by Érica González, a series of days of traditional Canary Island games are being developed in different parts of the municipality. These activities are designed to be inclusive, intergenerational and completely free.
Upcoming dates:
- AAVV Castillejo de Tesjuate – May 26 (17:30h to 19:30h).
- Plaza de La Paz – May 27 (17:00h to 19:30h).
- Primero de Mayo Street – May 28th and 29th (10:00h to 12:00h and 16:30h to 18:30h).
These days allow to recover and share in community games such as the tángana, the rope, the elastic, the jump of the shepherd or hopscotch.
David de Vera, Mayor of Puerto del Rosario and responsible for Social Affairs, said: “we want the Day of the Canary Islands to be lived in the street, with the joy of our traditions and the pride of being a people. Activities like these reinforce the link between generations and the sense of belonging to our land”.
Érica González, Councilor for Local Development, emphasizes: “with Bregando por Puerto we wanted to take our roots to the streets in a participatory, inclusive and didactic way. Traditional games are not only part of our cultural heritage, but also a tool for social cohesion that awakens the collective memory and strengthens the community fabric”.
David de León, councilman of the Primary Sector, has emphasized: “from the City Council we continue to support initiatives that value what is ours, that put in the foreground the popular knowledge, the oral tradition and the games that marked several generations of Canary Islanders”.
Meeting of Senior Citizen Centers – May 27th
Organized by the Directorate General for the Elderly and Active Participation together with the City Council, next Monday, May 27, a festive gathering will take place in the Plaza de la Paz, from 17:00 to 21:00 hours. The senior centers of the municipality will gather to celebrate a day with music, coexistence and prizes for the best traditional costume.
“Taste Puerto del Rosario” – May 29th
On Thursday, May 29, from 10:00 to 13:00 hours in the Avenida Marítima, will be held the gastronomic sample “Taste Puerto del Rosario”, a showcase of local produce and traditional Canarian cuisine. There will be tastings and exhibition of elaborations made with local products, supporting the primary sector and the circular economy.
