The City Council of Tuineje has celebrated an emotional day on the occasion of the Day of the Cross, which is commemorated next May 3, promoting a popular tradition: the enramado of the resting crosses and the three crosses of the Calvary in the municipality. The activity has counted with the participation of a group of elderly people, who have contributed with enthusiasm and wisdom to this initiative that seeks to rescue and preserve the history and local traditions.
During the day, the participants were accompanied by the Mayor of Tuineje, Candelaria Umpiérrez, the Councillor for the Elderly, Noelia García, and the Councillor for Gardens, Jonathan Peña, who showed their involvement and commitment to the conservation of the cultural heritage of the municipality.
The crosses along the road, historically placed by popular initiative, symbolize significant moments of the local past: memories, tragedies or joys that marked the collective memory of Tuineje and deserve to be preserved.
“The participation of our seniors in this activity is not only a symbolic gesture, but a way of paying tribute to those who have kept these traditions alive. They are the guardians of our memory and their involvement in this project makes it even more special,” emphasized Noelia García, Councilor for the Elderly.
Mayor Candelaria Umpiérrez said that “with this initiative we strengthen intergenerational ties and give value to elements of the landscape that tell our history”.
With this type of activities, the City Council of Tuineje reinforces its commitment to the preservation of intangible heritage and the active participation of the elderly in the life of the municipality.
