The best cheese of the Canary Islands is produced in the municipality
The City Council of Tuineje congratulates the local producers, winners in the XXI National Goat Milk Cheese Contest – Tabefe Awards, held under FEAGA 2025. Tuineje has been one of the great protagonists of this edition, with a significant number of awards that recognize the excellence and cheese tradition of the municipality.
Julian Díaz, a cheesemaker from Tiscamanita, has triumphed in the contest, winning three important awards:
- Best Cheese of the Canary Islands
- First Prize in the category of pasteurized and pasteurized cured products
- First Prize in the semi-cured pasteurized category.
An achievement that positions it as one of the Archipelago’s leading cheese producers.
Also noteworthy are the recognitions obtained by the Fuerteventura Cattle Breeders Group, which received two runners-up prizes for its El Tofio and Maxorata brand products, reaffirming the quality and prestige of these emblematic cheeses.
For his part, Julian Pérez, from Tequital, with his brand Quesos Rosa La Madera, won a runner-up prize in the category of cured cheeses with raw milk, which completes an impressive list of winners for the municipality.
“These awards not only reflect the quality of the final product, but also the hard work, dedication and passion behind each cheese made in Tuineje. We are deeply proud of our farmers and cheesemakers,” said Jonathan Peña, councilman of the Primary Sector of the City Council of Tuineje.
For his part, Mayor Candelaria Umpiérrez stressed that “this recognition confirms that Tuineje is a land of flavor, effort and tradition. Our producers put the name of the municipality at the top, and from the City Council will continue to support the primary sector as the basis of our identity and economic development”.
The City Council of Tuineje congratulates all the winners and reaffirms its commitment to promoting and supporting the productive sectors of the municipality. Today, more than ever, we can proudly say that the best cheese in the Canary Islands tastes like Tuineje.
