The Cultural Association Proa Norte, in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the City of La Oliva, directed by David Hernandez, will present the film proposal ‘Chico and Rita’ on April 11 at 20:00 pm in the Auditorium of Corralejo. The animated screening will also feature live performance of its original soundtrack by FuerteventuraWood Band, a formation composed of local musicians who have become a benchmark in creativity and artistic talent of the island.
The film is a work of Spanish animated cinema directed by Fernando Trueba, Javier Mariscal and Tono Errando. Thus, the film takes us on an emotional and musical journey through the romance between Chico Valdés, a talented pianist, and Rita La Belle, a charismatic singer. Set in the vibrant cities of Havana, Paris and New York, ‘Chico and Rita’ pays homage to Latin jazz and classic Hollywood cinema of the 1940s and 1950s. With a plot full of passion, music and melancholy, the film has become a benchmark for contemporary animation and a tribute to the essence of jazz.
The event, known as ‘Direct to Projection’, differs by offering a live performance of the original soundtrack of the film, instead of playing it in a recorded way. On this occasion, the FuerteventuraWood Band, formed by musicians from the island, will be in charge of offering a unique sound experience that will undoubtedly enrich the screening of the film. Dialogues and sound effects will be kept intact, allowing live music to intensify emotions, guide the visual narrative and provide a total immersion in the universe of Chico and Rita.
This project highlights the importance of music in cinema and aims to offer a complete sensory experience for the audience, transforming a traditional screening into a memorable and unique cultural event. Attendees will be able to enjoy the perfect fusion between cinema and live music, an innovative proposal that goes beyond what is usual in movie theaters.
The Proa Norte Cultural Association and the City Council of La Oliva are grateful for the support and collaboration of all those involved in the organization of this event, which aims to promote local talent, bring art closer to the community and offer spectators an enriching cultural experience. Pick up your free ticket one hour before at the auditorium box office.
